These visas enable employers to address labour shortages by bringing in skilled workers where employers can’t source an appropriately skilled Australian worker. With some occupations, these visas let skilled workers, who are nominated by their employer, live and work in Australia permanently.

Basic requirements:

• • You must have been nominated for one of the above visas by an eligible Australian employer.
  • Have a suitable skills assessment and/or work experience.
  • You must be aged under 45 for a permanent residency pathway.
  • At the time of invitation, you must have at least functional English, or competent English for the permanent residency pathway.

Once you become a permanent resident, you can:

• • stay in Australia indefinitely
  • work and study in Australia
  • enroll in Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare
  • sponsor eligible relatives to come to Australia
  • travel to and from Australia for 5 years
  • apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible
